Poem of the week:
Reading:
-We had ONE sight words this week-- “came”.
-The CAFÉ strategy we worked on this week was the strategy.
“Author’s Purpose”
When discussing author’s purpose this week, we were able to review books we have previously read and discussed the different reasons the authors of those book wrote them. Seeing each child’s face light up when it was fairly obvious that they “got it” when thinking about a book and why that author wanted kids to read or hear it. They were incredibly proud of themselves to not only come up with the purpose but then explain that purpose in detail in how it pertained to each specific book.
How can you help your child with this strategy at home?
--Talk about books that you have in your home library. Discuss if those books were written to make you laugh, teach you something or persuade you and try get you to do something.
--Sometimes books have more than one purpose, talk to your child why certain books might make you laugh but also teach you something at the same time and the importance of combining the reasons authors write books together sometimes.
Writing:
-We continued to work on our new writing choices and also learned about ocean animals that were found on our app Pocket Zoo. This app showed pictures, video and more about each animal. Students listened and wrote down facts and such that they learned about the animals. They then shared what they learned during our share time at the end of writer’s workshop!
Content:
This week we focused all week on the ocean and practiced for graduation. When we talked about the ocean, we talked about ocean animals, plant life, sand, salt water, waves and more! We had a great week writing, creating and thinking ahead to our soon to be summer vacation. We also practiced our graduation ceremony very hard every day. We can’t wait to show off a few things we have learned this year next week!
Math:
-We reviewed all our final math choices and the skills learned in practicing those choices. We showed off one of the skills we learned this year by using an app called Educreations and recording creating two different ways to find a number. Once they were finished with the problem, they sent their video to me using an app called Showbie. I loved seeing and hearing their minds work through each step of the problem. One of our scoreboard rewards today was a smelly marker star on our hand! They LOVED it!
One of our favorite school wide events at the end of the year is field day. These kids worked their tails off and enjoyed a yummy Popsicle to cool down after their hard work!
