We did it!

We made it through kindergarten! Thumbs up!!

Final Poetry Reading

Today, on our final day of kindergarten, we read through our entire poetry journal. We read each poem from our very first poem to our very last poem. We discussed the different things we remembered learning during each poem's week and were even more excited that we get to take them home today!

Beach Party!

Today was our end of the year beach party. When the students returned from art class, they were to find their shovel, pail, book and beach ball with their name on it. Once they found their spot, they put their beach towel down. We started off by doing one of my most favorite things to do when I am laying out on the beach....reading books! Each student got their very own copy of the book called The Sand Castle Contest. They followed along on their beach towel, while I read the book out loud to them. After reading the story, we made ice cream sundaes and listened and watched a live webcam shot of a beach in Hawaii to get the feel of being on an actual beach. Finally, we finished our tasty treats and studied several sea shells that I have had on my desk all year long. It was a wonderful way to end our school year!

Swat It!

Our year is coming to an end and our word wall is full to capacity with our sight words. Today we played a game called "Swat It" for review. Two students went up against each other and waited to hear the word. Once I said a word, they turn around and swat it on the wall. Whoever swats the word first, gets to go again against a new person. If they swat a word and it is incorrect, they are automatically out and pass the fly swatter off to another student. The kids love playing this sight word review game!

Writing Journals!

Today we worked in partners sharing our favorite entries in our writing journals throughout the year. After we shared in partners, we picked our favorite one out of all the entries and shared that one with the entire class. The students were very excited to take their journals home with them today!

Camp Read a Lot

We had special visitors in our classroom today from a 5th grade classroom here in our school. Mrs. Clayton's 5th grade students are having "Camp Read a Lot" in their class today. As a class reward they brought in sleeping bags, wore pajamas and have their favorite books ready to read. To start off their day, they came down to my kindergarten classroom and read picture books with my students. My kids absolutely loved being paired up with a big 5th grader today and reading stories with them. What a fun way to start off our second to last day of school!

His three clues were:
  1. It starts with an A.
  2. It has a beak.
  3. It is a bird.
  4. It's fuzzy.

Field Day!

Today was field day at our school. Field day is when the entire school is put onto a team full of kids from every grade level. There is a designated 5th grader who is the team captian/leader and a second 5th grader serving as the assistant leader. The teachers split up into teams of two and are in charge of various games and events around the playground. My event was the 50 yard dash! Below are a few pictures of my students when they came to my station. I was not able to get pictures of any of the other games, but they class sure worked hard! They were all sweaty when the fun afternoon was over. Before heading the busses, we enjoyed a tasty popsicle and two of my students finished the day with an undefeated team and a first place ribbon!
