Parent University

Thank you to all of the families who attended our third and final Parent University for this school year. It is always such a good feeling to see parents and students sharing in the love of learning together. We worked together on various strategies to help emergent readers sky rocket into independent reading!

ABC's of Ag Field Trip!

We went to McCutcheon High School's ABC of Ag Day for a morning field trip this week. The class got to see and pet many farm animals, plant seeds to take home and take care of and sit on a real tractor! We had so much fun!

Doughnut Day!

We earned our 10th surfboard last week and pulled out the prize "Doughnut Day". We enjoyed this yummy treat for displaying such good behavior throughout the school! We can't wait to find out what our next prize will be!

Niyah Surfer of the Week!

We enjoyed getting to know Niyah this past week. Her mother came in and shared pictures from Niyah's preschool and read a book to us that had CVC words in it. We were able to help her read the story! Thank you for sharing with us Niyah!

Will you BEE our Valentine?

This week we wrote a few Valentine related pieces. On Monday, we began by writing a letter to the school about Valentine’s Day. As we wrote the letter we discussed the different parts of a letter, sentence structure, writing sight words and stretching out words we did not know. We then created a Valentine bumble bee to go along with the writing. We also wrote a personal piece about something we will love forever. Both of these are in hung in our classroom and will be sent home soon!

Guest Readers!

During the month of February and the beginning of March we have had visitors from the Pi Beta Phi sorority house at Purdue come to our classroom and read with us for an hour. They jump right in during our Daily 5 time and read with kids and/or work with them on words or writing! It's always exciting to share our love of reading with others outside of our school!

Valentine's Day Fun!

We had such a fun Valenetine's holiday. We made several fun crafts, a love monster, puppy love dog, fish of hearts, a bling ring with pipe cleaners and a hershey kiss, played two minute to win it games where we stacked candy hearts and tried to get a cookie in our mouth from our forehead without using our hands, passed out Valentine's and decorated and ate yummy cookies! Whew! What a day!
