We're gobbling up words for Thanksgiving! We made our own turkey's and had them gobble up words from the word families we have been studying. The class cut out 8 words and put them in a pile. I then called out a word and the class had to find the word in their pile. After finding the word, they fed it to the turkey and glued it on it's belly! They did a great job sounding out each letter to find the correct word to glue! We have been working with the -at, -ap, -am and -an families.

We read the story Run, Turkey, Run! The story is about a turkey who is trying to hide from the farmer in order to escape being eaten for Thanksgiving dinner. After reading the story, the class completed their own sentence and illustration of where their turkey would hide from a farmer.
"My turkey will hide with tigers."
"My turkey will hide with tractors."
"My turkey will hide with blocks."
"My turkey will hide with cows."
"My turkey will hide in a log."
Our surfer of the week, Meredith, had her father Mr. Marshall come in and speak to the class about his job as a principal. The class had a lot of great questions for him and learned a few things they did not know about being a principal. Mr. Marshall also brought the class a folder and pencil from his school!
