Earth Day 2013

This week was all about Earth Day! We learned ways that even five and six year olds can help protect the Earth from harm.

• We cleaned up trash outside of our school.
• We practiced and read an Earth Day reader's theater to other classrooms to help spread awareness.
• We painted a picture using our hands above a handwritten promise to the Earth about what we promise to do to help keep it healthy.
• We completed a recyclable art project using empty milk cartons and turning them into personalized watering cans!

Poem 4-26-2013

Larry the Lizard Visits Room 26

During Olivia S.'s "Surfer of the Week" her dad brought in their pet lizard named Larry. Larry was pretty calm and still for the most part, but it was fun getting to learn about the lizard as well as about her Dad's job working with trains!

Eric Carle Illustrations

During our Eric Carle week we watched a video where we saw how Eric Carle illustrates his books. He told us that he uses tissue paper to create his pictures. He takes white tissue paper and paints it before adding it to his drawing. We took out that step and used colored tissue paper to place on an illsutration of his from the story The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

Informative Writing...Published!

We finished our informative writing pieces this week and published them using one of my favorite new iPad apps called Little Bird Tales. Click on the picture of each student below to watch listen to the stories!
