This week we studied our community and various helpers in our community. The students took home a person and had to change the person into what they want to be when they grow up. There was a page attached to it that they had to write down 3 clues to have their classmates guess what they wanted to be. Very creative!

Painting shapes in half! Using two colors the students had to paint one side of the shape one color and the other side equally, but in a different color.

Is/Is Not activity with shapes divided in half. All of the shapes had a line drawn down them. Some were in the middle and others were not. The students had to decide if both sides were equal or if they were not equal.

Reading our poem of the week!

We had a guest reader in our classroom today! Abby is a third grader and also a sister to Samuel in our class. She read the story "Bears New Friend". She did a great job and it was good for the kindergarteners to listen to a 3rd grade reader! :)

We are getting ready to start the Daily 5 model with our Literacy Stations. This is when the students and I gather in our calendar/whole group space and I teach a mini-lesson pertaining to one of the CAFE strategies. These strategies fall into four categories, Comprehension, Accuracy, Fluency and Expland Vocabulary. During the mini-lessons I will complete a lesson that focuses on one or sometimes more of these strategies. There are several sub-skills under the CAFE that I will focus on. This next week I will be focussing on fluency with sight words in both the morning message and poem, accuracy when reading the poem from left to right and accuracy of letter sounds using zoo phonics. We will discuss these all week and will place a key word to descibe each skill under the "F" and the "A" on our CAFE board! All the teachers at MME are including Daily 5 and CAFE into their everyday lessons.
Our first day at trying out a few Literacy Stations with the Daily 5 model! They did a good job!
