Week in Review--Dental Health

Poem of the Week!

-Our sight words this week were the words “she” and “all”!

-Please remember to practice your sight word flashcards each day as part of your homework.

-Our word families this week were –it and -in

-We continued working on using details to give more information about the main idea, reviewed author’s purpose, and talked about reading with expression.

-The CAFÉ strategy we worked on this week was

“Main idea and supporting details”

“Author’s Purpose”

How can you help your child with the strategy at home?

Continue to talk about books you are reading with your child at home.  Many of them are telling the topic of the book instead of the main idea.  Practice giving at least 3 details about the main idea too.  Of course, the more details the better.  This will help them with their writing too!

-In math we continued working on subtraction

-We practiced subtracting with number lines

-We practiced subtracting by drawing pictures and crossing out pictures to subtract

-We got to try out two new ipads apps during math time to practice addition, subtraction, and missing numbers
-We made pages 3 and 4 of our informational books.
-We reviewed feeling endings and added a feeling ending to our books.
-We reviewed our informational writing checklist
-We practiced adding details to our illustrations
-We talked about labeling our pictures
-We learned about boldface words in writing
-This week our theme was dental health
-We read various books about teeth
- We read statements about dental health and picked out the facts to make totally true toothbrushes
-We had a special guest visitor, Toothy Tom, who taught us about how to take care of our teeth
***  We saw all kinds of cool animals and did fun activities on our ABC’s of Ag field trip!!
The PBIS Laser Light Show on Thursday was awesome!  Congratulations to the students who earned this reward…which was everyone!   Woo hoo!
Next week:
--Our theme next week will be Dr. Seuss
--In writing we will be taking the post test for informational writing and beginning writing about opinions
--In math, we will continue to work on subtraction
--In reading, we will learn about cause and effect
