While on our way to the Fire Prevention Show at Jeff High School on Monday, my students were raving with excitement about the upcoming holiday of dressing up and eating lots and lots of candy. Halloween! The bus ride to the show only lasted about 12 minutes, but was filled with more excitement than I ever thought would be. As soon as the bus pulled away from Mayflower my students started right in with asking "Mrs. Brown!! What are you going to be for Halloween??" My first reaction was they are very excited about this question and truly believe an adult my age is thinking about what to dress up for Halloween and will go trick-or-treating. I realize I need to answer quickly because they are very impatient being 5 and 6 years old. So I answer by telling them, "I'm not sure yet. What do you think I should be?" I of course was thinking they wanted to know what I was going to be, but they started right in with telling me what they were going to be for Halloween. I heard everything from spiderman, batman, skeleton and a spider. I then replied with something I thought was a great idea! I told them I was going to be a cheerleader because I am a cheerleading coach. They all immediately started laughing hysterically and saying "Noooooo!!". I couldn't help but to laugh with them too! I asked them what was so funny and why the "Noooooo!" response. One little boy goes on to tell me that being a cheerleader isn't scary....I should be a cheer"reader" and I would yell out stories while trick-or-treating. He said "That would be scary!"
