I am struggling with finding time to do everything I want to do in math, so I am looking into Daily 5 to give the students more choice. I look forward to learning more.
Mrs. Shelton’s KindergartenHeather Sheltonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12393180140239096513noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7313211470775228693.post-19341041991430645342012-10-20T17:49:15.147-04:002012-10-20T17:49:15.147-04:00Hello!

We are going to include a "Listen to Math" this year so we will have 4 choices. We've found it to be VERY easy to come up with activities related to the CCSS for the students to work on independently while we pull math groups. We also do math mini-lessons like we do in D5 math.Mrs. Brown's Kindergarten Bloghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15378413431965976773noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7313211470775228693.post-4318906161828774362012-08-25T08:09:31.377-04:002012-08-25T08:09:31.377-04:00What resources did you use to get started in Math ...What resources did you use to get started in Math Daily 5? Each of the 5 choices has students working without using worksheets. Read to self uses their book boxes, work on writing can be journals or loose leaf paper (options are endless really), work work has several options with play-doh, magnetic letters, dry erase boards/markers...much more, listen to reading has a story on tape/cd and read to someone they again use their book boxes. Are you looking for more ideas to use/introduce in the word work station? Let me know and I'd love to share what we use!Mrs. Brown's Kindergarten Bloghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15378413431965976773noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7313211470775228693.post-41991442115513515192012-08-21T22:45:49.327-04:002012-08-21T22:45:49.327-04:00I am starting a long-term kindergarten position an...I am starting a long-term kindergarten position and our school already does the Daily 5 for literacy, but they are trying to figure out how to incorporate work by yourself without doing worksheets. Do you have any ideas besides the word work?Nicolenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7313211470775228693.post-24328098473114047992012-01-23T17:34:11.852-05:002012-01-23T17:34:11.852-05:00Hello there! Anyway....yes my students respond almost better to D5 math than they do D5 literacy. They do an amazing job with both, but I notice it's even quieter working during math!

To start off I introduced one activity at each choice "Math by Myself, Math with Someone and Number Work" over the course of a couple of days. I modeled just like D5 literacy and had students model good/poor choices. We also made I-charts. I had one activity per choice in the beginning and continue with mini-lessons in b/w each rotation. I would then use a mini-lesson from time to time to add another activity to a choice.

I absolutely LOVE using this and it works great for me to work with individuals or groups b/c my students are actively busy and not needing ME!

Please ask me any other questions...I'd love to help as best I can!Mrs. Brown's Kindergarten Bloghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15378413431965976773noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7313211470775228693.post-74635891100415892352012-01-04T20:08:47.402-05:002012-01-04T20:08:47.402-05:00Thank you for posting about Daily 5 math! Perhaps it's because I don't have a book to guide me along. Do your students respond as well to Daily 5 math as they do to Daily 5 literacy? Do you have any suggestions as to how I should go about getting this up and running? Did you slowly start off with one category at a time like we do with Daily 5 literacy or did you begin with the three categories all together? Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! :) MelissaMelissa R.noreply@blogger.com
